Luis Enrique stayed calm in the storm, then celebrated like a kid, as PSG retained the Champions League by beating Arsenal 1-1 after extra time, 4-3 on penalties. It is his third crown, and a second in succession with PSG.
According to L'Équipe, he again set the tone on a gruelling night, trusting the same outfield players who delivered in Munich and preaching emotional control.
Kai Havertz’s early strike brought applause from the touchline rather than panic. Enrique grew tetchy with the fourth official in extra time, then steadied himself for the shootout, exploding only when Gabriel sent the decisive kick over.
The aftermath was joyous. He danced with his staff, linked arms with Luis Campos, saluted the PSG end with his players and even ushered his wife and children onto the pitch.
Enrique is now the 11th coach to win Europe’s premier prize in successive seasons. He has taken 16 of 19 finals, an 84 percent hit rate, and with PSG has nine in 10, the only blemish a 0-3 Club World Cup loss to Chelsea on 13 July 2025.
Selection was ruthless. He said Warren Zaïre-Emery deserved to start and that Bradley Barcola missed out again, praising their professionalism. Six designated takers chose the order themselves and belief in Safonov, nicknamed Mocha, held firm. Vitinha credited Enrique’s relentless drive, and the coach will extend his deal to 2030, with talk of a back-to-back-to-back to come.
