Luis Enrique honoured in Gijon as green beach named after him | OneFootball

Gijon has honoured Luis Enrique after an emotional season with PSG, inaugurating a green beach that now bears his name.

The Paris manager, born in May 1970, opened the Playa Verde Luis Enrique at El Rinconin. According to El Comercio, the site is among the city's most beautiful and he appeared deeply moved, speaking with spontaneity.

A stele at the park describes him as a Gijon native at heart and a universal sportsman, credits his dedication and personality with taking the city's name around the world, and hails his passion, humility and fighting spirit on and off the pitch.

He is scheduled to return to work on 25 July when PSG's squad return to training.

The club have the European Super Cup on 12 August against Aston Villa in their sights.
