Luis Enrique has applied the same unforgiving standards to PSG’s staff as to his players, with exits and reshuffles following his arrival.

According to L'Équipe, the 56-year-old believes roughly two staff changes each close season keep his backroom fresh. He holds everyone to the same standards.

Since 2023, at least six first-team staff have left or been reassigned. Not all moves were his decisions. He has say over assistants and technical roles, not medical.

By contrast, goalkeeping coach Jean-Luc Aubert moved to the Espoirs, then left last summer, bitter. Video analyst Vincent Brunet is now with the U23, while Denis Lefebvre, a fitness coach until 2024, now leads youth performance.

Further quiet changes include a physio moving this season to PSG Labs, the club’s tech, sport and culture innovation arm launched one year ago. Often affinity and shared vision matter as much as competence.

Aitor Unzue, formerly Spain’s video analyst under Enrique, joined in 2023 as second assistant. When Rafel Pol stepped back to be near his seriously ill wife, Unzue’s role grew, yet he left quietly at the start of 2024-2025, then joined Genoa.

His father Juan Carlos Unzue, a friend of Enrique and once his assistant at Celta Vigo then Barcelona, is close to him. Inside the club, the exit was seen as proof he is unsentimental at work, which bolsters his legitimacy and shows he shuns cronyism. The flip side is fear among some at the Campus that any post could change at any time.
