Luis Suárez wins MLS Player of the Matchday for Matchdays 16 and 17 | OneFootball

Luis Suárez has been named MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob ULTRA for Matchdays 16 and 17 after scoring twice in Inter Miami's 3-2 win over Chicago Fire.

According to Inter Miami, it is his first such honour since Matchday 29 of 2024.

At Nu Stadium he converted a 27th-minute penalty. He added a second in the 51st minute after combining with Germán Berterame.

The double brought up two milestones, 100 Inter Miami appearances and 50 goals. They were his seventh and eighth of the season and the result kept Miami second in the Eastern Conference and moved them to second in the Supporters' Shield standings.

Suárez has five goals across the past two regular season matches. He is on 38 regular-season goals for Inter Miami, second in club history behind Lionel Messi's 62. He has started the past five games, contributing in each.

This is his fourth MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Michelob ULTRA recognition, moving him past Leonardo Campana's three for second-most in club history, behind Messi's 14.

MLS Player of the Matchday, presented by Michelob ULTRA, is selected each matchday through media and fan voting run by MLS Communications. A North American Soccer Reporters panel accounts for 75 percent, with Instagram fan voting making up the remaining 25 percent.
