Luis Zubeldía says he will support Lanús against Flamengo in Recopa | OneFootball

Fluminense head coach Luis Zubeldía has said he will support Lanús when they face Flamengo in this month's Recopa Sudamericana.

Flamengo chase their first trophy of the year on 19 and 26 February against the Argentine club, with the opener in Argentina and the return at the Maracanã. According to Coluna Do Fla, Zubeldía spoke after Fluminense lifted the Taça Guanabara with victory over Maricá on Sunday 8.

He said Lanús are in his heart and that he would always back them, whoever the opponents, except when he is coaching the other team.

He caught the eye in South America with LDU. Before that, he managed Lanús from 2012 to 2014 and in 2019 and 2021, and as a player he was a professional for one club, Lanús.

Flamengo, last year's Libertadores winners, meet last year's Sudamericana champions Lanús over two legs. Flamengo will target a second Recopa title, while the Argentines chase a first.

Before that, Flamengo play in the Brasileirão and the Carioca. Next up is Vitória in the national competition, with kick-off at 19:00 Brasília time at Estádio Manoela Barradas, the Barradão, in Salvador.
