Luton Town midfielder Liam Walsh will be available against West Bromwich Albion following his red card against Coventry City last weekend.
Luton Town have confirmed that midfielder Liam Walsh will be available for their crucial final day clash with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns following a successful appeal against his red card.
The 27-year-old was sent off for the Hatters against Coventry City at the weekend for a confrontation with Luis Binks in which he pushed the former Bologna defender and Binks went down as though he had been struck in the face.
The EFL have now overturned the red card that was shown to Walsh and he will be available for Luton as they head into a game that will determine their season at Albion on the final day.
Walsh, who joined the Hatters on a free transfer last summer following his departure from Swansea City, was excellent up until his red card against play-off chasing Coventry at Kenilworth Road, striking the cross-bar from a long-range effort just moments before.
His availability in West Bromwich will be a massive boost to Matt Bloomfield and his Luton side as they seek to secure their second-tier status for the 2025/26 campaign.
Walsh has endured a mixed first season in Bedfordshire and received a lot of criticism for a red card he received against Oxford United in October having only been on the pitch for a minute before launching into a reckless tackle in a game that Luton were held to a 2-2 draw in against the U’s.
However, after missing out on the squad in eight of nine games mid-way through the campaign and then making just two appearances in the next six Luton matches, Walsh has begun to really find some form and has become a key man in the middle of the park for Bloomfield’s relegation battlers.
He has started 10 of the last 12 games in the Championship, coming off the bench once in that time, too, and his involvement could be crucial for Luton this weekend.
Luton have finally found some form of late with that game against Coventry ending in a 1-0 win for the hosts thanks to a late Shandon Baptiste strike after a Brad Collins error. Coventry had themselves been down to ten men for much of the match due to Jay Dasilva’s 13th minute red card.
Luton have suffered just one defeat in their last nine matches and head into the final day of the season on the back of three successive victories to give themselves a chance of survival.
On the final day they will begin their game against West Brom sitting a point and a place outside of the bottom three and the relegation places, just above Ruben Selles’ Hull City.
Five teams could still get relegated alongside Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle, with the latter requiring a minimum 14-goal swing to avoid the drop as well as results going their way.
As Luton go to The Hawthorns; Hull travel down to Fratton Park to face Portsmouth, Preston North End face play-off chasing Bristol City and Derby County face fellow battlers Stoke City at Pride Park.
