Monaco came from behind to beat Lyon 2-1 in a crucial clash for Europe, driven by Maghnes Akliouche, as Nicolas Tagliafico saw red late on.
L'Équipe highlights that Akliouche was Monaco’s catalyst throughout, while Tagliafico lost his composure in a fractious contest.
Early on, Tagliafico felled Akliouche at five minutes and Greif denied the winger at 16. A. Moreira produced a vital recovery in front of Teze at 31, then Sulc swept in Endrick’s cut-back on 42. Tolisso clipped the post at 45+2.
Endrick rounded Hradecky on 57 but Teze cleared his outside-of-the-boot effort. Akliouche levelled on 61 after beating Mata, the move aided by an A. Moreira slip. Tolisso fouled Akliouche at 68 and Balogun converted the penalty on 72.
Greif saved from Fati on 76 and from Mawissa at 90+8. Paulo Fonseca was booked on 77 and is now eight competitive matches without a win, four draws and four defeats, the first Lyon coach with such a run since Guy Stéphan in 1996. Tagliafico was dismissed for a dangerous challenge on Camara at 88, his second red card this week after Thursday’s Europa League tie against Celta Vigo.
