Lyon’s Mathys De Carvalho joins Al-Diriyah in €1.1m move | OneFootball

Lyon have sold 21-year-old midfielder Mathys De Carvalho to Saudi club Al-Diriyah, the club confirmed on Monday. The deal is worth €1.1m and Lyon retain a 10 per cent share of any future transfer fee.

The defensive midfielder has signed a contract running until 2029 after progressing through the club’s academy.

Given his first-team debut by manager Paulo Fonseca in September 2025, De Carvalho made 22 appearances in all competitions, registering one assist.

He is a Portuguese Under-20 international with 10 caps and one goal.

In Saudi Arabia he will find several former Ligue 1 players in the league, including Chancel Mbemba, 32, Idrissa Gueye, 36, and Enzo Millot, 24.

Courted by other domestic sides and clubs in Portugal, he was reportedly persuaded by new manager Bruno Lage’s pitch.
