Macclesfield striker Ethan McLeod dies in M1 car crash | OneFootball

Macclesfield striker Ethan McLeod, 21, has died in a car crash while travelling home from a match. The club said in a statement that his death followed their 2-1 National League North win at Bedford Town.

At about 10.40pm his white Mercedes hit the nearside metal barrier near junction 15 of the M1. Members of the public and officers tried to help, but he died at the scene. An appeal has been launched for anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward.

Birmingham-born McLeod began his professional career at Wolverhampton Wanderers and joined Macclesfield this summer. He left Wolves in September last year without a first-team appearance, then played for Rushall Olympic and Stourbridge.

Macclesfield paid tribute, calling him a talented forward with an infectious personality whose professionalism and zest for life inspired team-mates on and off the pitch. Tributes were also made by Talking Wolves, Rushall Olympic and Stourbridge.

The club also offered condolences to his family and friends, with an assurance of support for those affected.
