Madou Camara, one of three youths arrested over an alleged assault on an elderly man in Palma, is not currently a Villarreal player. The winger, born 14 January 2006, now plays for Gil Vicente under-23s in Portugal.

Villarreal said he no longer has any link to the club, having left more than a season ago, and called on media outlets to correct reports that tied him to their academy.

Camara previously featured in the groguet set-up, departing Roda’s Juvenil A on 1 July 2025 before moving to Portugal. The confusion is said to stem from his brother, Moussa Traoré, born 4 April 2008, who is at Villarreal and played for Villarreal C this season.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday at a home in the La Soledad neighbourhood of Palma. Three youths entered the property and allegedly used violence to rip a gold chain from the resident’s neck, injuring the octogenarian, before fleeing.

The National Police Robbery Group took charge of the case and found that the trio had left the island. Two flew to Barcelona, where they were arrested. The third had earlier travelled by ferry to Barcelona. With his whereabouts unknown, an arrest warrant was issued.

Detectives also established that the third suspect had been responsible for selling the stolen chain. The jewellery was recovered and returned to its owner.
