Arsenal forward Noni Madueke says he was satisfied with England’s performance against Andorra.

The 23-year-old started against the side ranked 174th in the world again having been in the starting eleven in the reverse fixture, and was one of the Three Lions bright sparks in another lowkey performance from Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Madueke was one of the standout players and he was the creator for England’s first, as his cross was diverted into his own net by Christian Garcia Gonzalez.

Although it was not the high scoring win expected, the Gunners winger was positive about much improved performance despite the scoreline.

“Clean sheet, two goals, probably could have had more,” Madueke said. “We had the experience of playing them at the end of last season and we knew that. We’ve got to give them credit, they’re a very stubborn opposition.

“I think we could have scored more goals and I think it was definitely a much improved performance from the last time. I’m happy overall.

“I think I tried to create as much as possible for my team. I think those type of games, you have to just get the ball and just have that fearless mentality of, ‘okay, cool, there’s 11 players and 30 metres of space.’

“So the only way you’re really going to get to goal is if you outplay somebody or if you produce a real moment on quality with the cross like Reece James did with the second goal.

“I feel like as a collective, that was really what we tried to do, just go out there and be sharp on the defensive and just try and go out there and create and take people out of game. I think in spells we did that well.

“Me and Rashi [Rashford] had more narrow positions, as opposed to the last game where I think it was me and Morgan [Rogers] played on the chalk.

“It’s difficult to create an overload, really, if there’s eleven players and 30 metres of space, but I think that helped us more when the fallbacks got on the outside and like I said, Reece James, you see saw this moment of quality from that tactic.”
