The Blues are once again in the process of appointing a new head coach having sacked Liam Rosenior last month, less than four months after appointing him.

Rosenior became the second head coach to leave Stamford Bridge this season, following Enzo Maresca’s departure in January.

Xabi Alonso Chelsea’s preferred choice for the job

With Calum McFarlane in interim charge, Chelsea’s sporting directors are conducting their search for a new head coach.

It’s been reported there are seven or eight names under consideration, with Andoni Iraola believed to be an early front runner.

David Ornstein believes an appointment will be made early in the summer, and Mail Sport have reported Alonso is Chelsea’s early preferred choice for the job.

However, the report adds it remains to be seen if the Blues would be able to convince him to take the job at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso is currently out of work having been sacked by Real Madrid earlier this season, but had a successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won a league and cup double in an unbeaten domestic season.
