Mainz 05 are determined to keep 18-year-old centre-back Kacper Potulski beyond the summer transfer window amid interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle United.

"The fairytale is not over yet. It is not our intention to let him go – and he will not leave," said sporting director Christian Heidel, speaking to Bild.

Potulski broke into the first-team squad last season and is now expected to take on a more prominent role.

"He has to play now and establish himself as a regular starter with us," Heidel said.

Potulski is under contract with Die Nullfünfer until 2028.
