Mainz are awaiting further examination results after Paul Nebel sustained an injury in training on Tuesday.

Bild reports that the 22-year-old went down after taking a shot during the training camp in Wörgl, Austria, clutching the left side of his groin before receiving treatment from medical staff.

He was moved to the side of the pitch for assessment, then left the session with a slight limp. The club have not yet established the extent of the problem, with additional tests planned.

The attacking midfielder had completed every pre-season session until this setback, a worry just weeks before the new Bundesliga campaign.

Whether his withdrawal was only precautionary or points to a more significant adductor issue remains unclear.
