Sundowns move to the summit after Orbit win

Mamelodi Sundowns moved to the summit of the Betway Premiership table after a 2-0 victory over Orbit College on Tuesday night.

The defending champions endured a frustrating opening half with a lack of goalmouth action, owing to limited clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Sundowns, however, made their intentions clear in the second stanza as Miguel Reisinho scored his first league goal after pouncing on an assist from compatriot Nuno Santos in the 48th minute.

Miguel Cardoso's men doubled the lead from the spot at the hour mark thanks to Iqraam Rayners, who netted his 10th league goal after Khuliso Mudau was fouled in the box.

Downs dethroned Orlando Pirates at the top of the table, going three points clear as they amassed 47 points, albeit played one game more than Abdeslam Ouaddou's troops.

The Tshwane giants will now shift their focus to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals where they are set to host Malian champions Stade Malien in the first leg at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday.
