Manchester City surrendered ground in the title race after a 2-2 home draw with Nottingham Forest, leaving them seven points behind Arsenal with a game in hand.
Forest sat deep early, looking to counter, but City cranked up the pressure and broke through when Rayan Cherki clipped in a cross that Antoine Semenyo guided in smartly.
Just after the break, Nicolas Dominguez switched play to Ola Aina, who outpaced Rayan Ait-Nouri and crossed. Igor Jesus headed down and Morgan Gibbs-White back-heeled past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
City hit back almost immediately, Ait-Nouri’s in-swinging corner was nodded in by Rodri. Forest levelled again when Elliot Anderson drove forward, exchanged passes with Callum Hudson-Odoi and curled beyond Donnarumma.
Semenyo’s opener continued City’s familiar cutback threat. They have 11 Premier League goals from that pattern this season, more than any side, with Arsenal next on seven.
“Still many games to play, for them [Arsenal] one less, and now it’s Newcastle. Always I think about what is next. In general it was a good performance with many good things and of course we have things to improve,” he told Sky Sports.
Vitor Pereira praised Forest’s personality and organisation, noting they had one day fewer to recover and five games in 15 days with travel. He said they waited for the right moments and proved they could get points anywhere.
City face Newcastle at home in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday, March 7, 8pm UK, 3pm ET.
