Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has given his latest update on the Premier League’s 115 charges against the club.
It has now been more than three years since the charges were brought against City by the Premier League. Ever since then, the allegations have been hanging over the club’s head, threatening to bring many of their achievements into disrepute.
It was alleged that the club made 115 breaches of financial rules across a nine-year period. The alleged breaches took place between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.
“Let me be as consistent as I’ve always been,” explained City chairman Al Mubarak. “Until we have a ruling, I can’t say much.
“Once we have a ruling, believe me, we’re going to have a wonderful sit down together. And I’ll say everything I’ve wanted to say for the last three years.”
The hearing on the charges is believed to have already taken place over a year ago. However, any verdict or when an announcement of the outcome can be expected remain unknown.
Many online commentators have speculated that Pep Guardiola’s departure after a decade could indicate that a verdict may be coming soon. The Catalan left the club this summer after winning 20 trophies in ten years.
It has prompted claims online that he is jumping ship to get out ahead of any punishment that could be coming City’s way. Similar accusations were also levelled at the exits of the likes of Omar Berrada, Txiki Begiristain and any other senior figure to move on from the club in recent years.
