Manchester United’s focus now turns to local rivals Manchester City in the Premier League after the international break.

League form

The Red Devils have had a mixed start to the season, losing 0-1 to Arsenal at Old Trafford despite playing very well.

They then disappointed in a 1-1 draw with Fulham before earning a last-gasp victory versus Burnley at home.

Manchester City started the season with a thumping 4-0 win away to Wolverhampton but have lost their last two games 0-2 at home to Tottenham Hotspur and 1-2 away to Brighton and Hove Albion.

It means that the Red Devils start the match one point ahead of their bitter rivals in the table.

Injury concerns

Man United’s Diogo Dalot had to pull out of Portugal’s squad before their international matches but it seems City have had worse luck in this department.

The Guardian report that “Omar Marmoush is poised to miss Manchester City’s derby with Manchester United on Sunday, and there are fears that a knee injury sustained against Burkina Faso could rule him out for a sustained period.”

He was forced off in the ninth minute whilst representing Egypt in their World Cup qualifiers.

City have commented, “initial results on a scan performed in Egypt indicate he will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday, and he will now return to Manchester for more assessment and to begin his rehabilitation. Everyone at City wishes Omar a speedy recovery.”

Adding to City’s woes, “Rayan Cherki is out with a hamstring injury that will sideline him for six weeks, and Phil Foden’s fitness is unclear after he missed the Brighton game.”

John Stones may also miss the match as he had to pull out of the England squad due to “minor issues”, it is unclear as of now whether he will be available to play in the derby.

United face City on Sunday at the Etihad at 16.30 BST looking for a repeat of their victory last season.
