Although FC Barcelona have begun the transfer window focused on strengthening their attack, which remains their main priority this summer, the Blaugrana have not forgotten about bolstering the central defence.
One of the names linked with the La Liga champions to reinforce the backline is Manchester City mainstay Josko Gvardiol.
The 24-year-old Croatian, whose contract with Manchester City runs until 2028, has emerged as a possible target for the left-sided centre-back role or as cover at left-back if required.
Speaking to the media while on international duty with Croatia ahead of the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, Gvardiol was inevitably asked about the speculation.

While he stressed that he is content at City, he also refused to rule out a future move.
“We’ve all seen the various rumours coming from all over the place. I’m happy at Manchester City; I have everything I need,” Gvardiol said, as quoted by SPORT.
“Before the injury, I played every game and almost every minute. After the Club World Cup, we’ll see what happens,” added the centre-back.

While Barcelona are monitoring Gvardiol’s situation, they are not alone as arch-rivals Real Madrid are also showing an interest in the Croatian international.
With two years left on his contract, the 24-year-old defender will likely cost a big sum, given Man City spent around €80 million to sign him from RB Leipzig.
For now, his focus remains firmly on the tournament in North America, but his comments suggest that while he would be happy to continue at Manchester City, he would also be willing to consider alternative opportunities should talks over his future fail to progress.
