Manchester City Face Injury Concerns Ahead of Brentford Clash

Manchester City’s pursuit of the Premier League title continues with significant injury concerns, as the team heads into their next match against Brentford. Pep Guardiola’s side will likely once again be without the services of midfielder Rodri, who has been sidelined due to a groin injury.

Rodri’s Injury Impact on Manchester City’s Title Push

Manchester City dropped points against Everton earlier this week, handing Arsenal a crucial five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. The absence of Rodri has made it increasingly difficult for City, who will need to regroup quickly if they hope to challenge Arsenal for the title in the remaining weeks.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has not featured since City’s 2-1 victory over the Gunners, a match in which he sustained the injury. Guardiola spoke ahead of the trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, revealing that Rodri had yet to train with his teammates. He gave an update on the Spanish midfielder ahead of City’s home clash with Europe-chasing Brentford.

“Still, he doesn’t feel completely comfortable, and when he will be ready and fit and comes back,” Guardiola said. “We’ll see this afternoon, hopefully for tomorrow – he will come back.”

Guardiola Provides Updates on Dias and Gvardiol

Rodri is not the only injury concern for Manchester City. Defenders Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, both of whom were Guardiola’s preferred central defensive pairing at the start of the season, are also recovering. The duo is now back in training, offering Guardiola a boost as he looks to maintain his team’s challenge for the Premier League title.

Guardiola shared positive news about Gvardiol, who has had a tough time with injuries this season. “He’s good, he’s training, he feels good – it’s been many months [out],” said the City boss. “Last season, he was one of the most important players for us with many injuries, he played all the games. And at the end the body says in one moment, ‘enough is enough!'”

Guardiola expressed optimism for Gvardiol’s return, adding: “But I’m happy he’s back, hopefully, he can help us in the last part of the season and make a good World Cup with Croatia and next season, we can have him again at his best!”

City’s Predicted Lineup for Brentford Match

With key players still uncertain, Guardiola is expected to field a strong team to face Brentford. Gianluigi Donnarumma will likely start in goal, with a defensive line of Matheus Nunes, Abdukodir Khusanov, Marc Guehi, and Nico O’Reilly. In midfield, Bernardo Silva and Nico Gonzalez could feature, though Guardiola might rotate and choose Tijjani Reijnders or move O’Reilly into midfield and play Rayan Ait-Nouri in defence.

In attack, Guardiola will likely keep things unchanged, with Antoine Semenyo on the right, Jeremy Doku on the left, and Rayan Cherki between them. Erling Haaland will lead the line as usual.

Predicted Manchester City XI (4-2-3-1):

Donnarumma; Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, O’Reilly; Nico, Silva; Semenyo, Cherki, Doku; Haaland
