Manchester City could reportedly get the chance to sign Federico Valverde this summer as Real Madrid may be willing to let him go for around €120m.

The Uruguay international is one of the club’s best and most important players, but his future now seems to be up in the air after a recent fight with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.

According to AS, Man City have enquired about Valverde in the past and could be one to watch again this summer now that he could actually be on the market.

It’s not yet clear if Valverde will definitely leave the Bernabeu, but while it seemed impossible in the past, there is now the sense that €100-120m could convince Los Blancos to sell, which will likely have clubs like City on alert.

Federico Valverde could be a dream signing for Manchester City

Needless to say, Valverde looks like he could very obviously strengthen this City side, and indeed most top clubs anywhere in the world.

The 27-year-old has been tremendously consistent on the pitch for Real, with WhoScored stats illustrating that as he’s picked up 15 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this season, all whilst playing a variety of different positions.

See below for a full breakdown of how many times he’s played right-back, defensive midfield, attacking midfield, and others, and how well he’s performed in each role…

MCFC could use Valverde’s quality, whether it’s filling in for Rodri from time to time, or giving the club a more attack-minded option to help them replace Kevin De Bruyne.

The deal would clearly be expensive, so it would eat into City’s budget quite a bit, but apart from that it’s hard not to give this potential signing a very high score using our Transfer Fit rating system

Valverde only loses points for his price tag and the fact that he’s not the youngest, but very few signings are perfect, and he’s about as close as they get.

What will be interesting, however, is now this affects City’s plans in midfield, as they may see the Valverde opportunity as too good to ignore, even if it means they can no longer realistically afford to sign both him and someone like Elliot Anderson.

How could Federico Valverde transfer saga impact Elliot Anderson?

If City were to move for Valverde, that would be a significant outlay, and would give them a world class addition to their midfield.

In other words, it’s hard to then justify spending a similar amount on signing Anderson from Nottingham Forest as well.

Give Me Sport continue to link rivals Manchester United with Anderson as well, so this could represent a major opportunity for them to get in ahead of City if their focus ends up being elsewhere.

That would be a major shake-up to this transfer window as City had previously been named by BBC Sport as the frontrunners in the race to sign Anderson.

The England international has been superb in the Premier League this season, but Valverde is the more proven and experienced name at the very highest level, having won multiple titles, including the Champions League, during his time with Madrid.
