Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has on Thursday been threatened with a court case by Premier League outfit Manchester City.

This comes owing to the comments laid out by the Spaniard on Wednesday night.

Riquelme of course grabbed headlines across Europe yesterday evening, in promising the signing of Man City talisman Erling Haaland, if elected as the next Real Madrid president this weekend.

During an appearance on Spanish TV show El Hormiguero, the businessman went as far as to hold up a Blancos jersey, with the name of the Norwegian goalscorer across the back.

And as alluded to above, these actions have evidently not gone down at all well behind the scenes at The Etihad…

In fact, so angered have Man City as a club been left by Riquelme’s actions, that they have threatened imminent legal action.

In a statement released on Thursday, as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Sky Blues wrote:

‘The stories which have emerged from Spain regarding the future of Erling Haaland are FALSE. There is NO chance of this happening and there is no contractual clause to enable it. We are considering LEGAL ACTION for the use of our player image in this context.’
