City were well beaten in midweek Champions League shock
Pep Guardiola has decisions to make as Manchester City return to Premier League action to play Leeds United.
City were stunned earlier in the week by Bayer Leverkusen, with the Bundesliga side running out 2-0 victors in a result that shook Europe.
Guardiola tinkered with his starting XI against Kasper Hjulmund’s side, resting key players and giving those on the fringes an opportunity to impress.
That experiment ultimately backfired, with City dealt a disappointing defeat that handed them their first loss on the continent this season.
Erling Haaland was rested in place of Omar Marmoush up top, while Savinho and Oscar Bobb completed the front three against Leverkusen.
Tijjani Reijnders was reintroduced to the engine room alongside Nico, who has deputised in the absence of the injured Rodri, and natural full-back Rico Lewis.
John Stones and Nathan Ake were given rare starts at the heart of defence, and Rayan Ait-Nouri regained his left-back berth for the first time from the in-form Nico O’Reilly. Abdukodir Khusanov was at right-back, while James Trafford got a run-out in net.
You would think that Guardiola will revert back to type - his winning formula - this weekend, and his frustrations in midweek were evident as he made three half-time substitutions, bringing on Phil Foden, O’Reilly and Jeremy Doku.
Haaland came on later in the second half along with Rayan Cherki.
That result leaves City with two defeats on the bounce, and they will be out to make amends against a vulnerable Leeds side this weekend.
Gianluigi Donnarumma should return between the sticks, while Matheus Nunes has been consistent at right-back.
Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol have been the go-to centre-backs, with O’Reilly completing the defensive quartet.
In the engine room, there are still question marks over Rodri’s fitness, so Nico could get the nod once more, flanked by Foden and Bernardo Silva.
Cherki has been selected on the right flank in City’s win over Liverpool and defeat by Newcastle, and he should come straight back in alongside Haaland and Doku.
Predicted Man City XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly; Silva, Nico, Foden; Cherki, Haaland, Doku
Doubt: Rodri
Injured: Mateo Kovacic
Venue: Etihad Stadium
