Manchester United are reportedly one of three clubs looking to pounce on the unusual situation involving Barcelona and Dani Olmo.

The Catalan giants splashed €55 million to sign the 26-year-old from RB Leipzig last summer following his Euro 2024 heroics. He has thus far made 15 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and providing one assist in the process.

However, Barca could be forced to drop the attacking midfielder from their squad due to their financial woes. The Blaugrana have been constantly struggling to remain within the parameters imposed by LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play rules which have cast a large shadow upon the club’s transfer plans in the post-Covid era.

In case Barcelona fail to register the player for the second half of the season, Olmo could sensationally release himself from his contract with the Spanish giants due to a clause inserted in the deal. This would make the Spain international the most coveted free agent in January.

According to Fichajes.net, Manchester United certainly be interested in signing the Euro 2024 winner. After all, Ruben Amorim is desperate for reinforcements while the club lacks the financial means to pull off new signings.

Nevertheless, the Red Devils obviously won’t be the solitary club looking to add Olmo to their ranks. In fact, the source names their arch-rivals Manchester City as a direct threat in the race. The Cityzens’ interest shouldn’t come as a surprise given how Pep Guardiola had previously hailed the midfielder as an ‘incredible’ player. Finally, the source mentions Bayern Munich as the third party involved in the race.

However, it should be noted that Olmo has stressed his desire to remain at Barcelona which he had always considered his dream club. But it remains to be seen if the conditions will allow the two parties to prolong their collaboration.
