Marcus Rashford is clear on his hope to stay at Barcelona ‘for many years’ as his time at Manchester United looks over.
Two goals from Rashford secured a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in Barcelona’s opening UEFA Champions League game at St James’ Park as the on-loan United star scored twice in the second half to ensure three points for Hansi Flick on Tyneside.
Rashford’s double ended his wait for a goal following a summer move from Old Trafford and the England international was ecstatic at full time.
As part of his post-match interview, Rashford also outlined how he is starting to adjust to his new surroundings in Catalonia and called on the club to activate his €30m release clause at the end of the campaign.
“I want to stay here for as many years as possible. We’ll see if I can achieve that. I just have to focus on trying to do my job and help the team in any way I can,” as per Diario Sport.

That update has been received positively back in Manchester [as per Teamtalk] with the Red Devils seeing no way back for him, regardless of what happens with Ruben Amorim.
Rashford remains one of United’s highest earners, on a contract until 2028, and the club are desperate to move him on, with any sale being allotted as ‘pure profit’ with Profit & Sustainability Rules as he is an academy graduate.
With United keen to sell and Rashford ready to leave, the final party to convince is Hansi Flick and Barcelona.
Flick has been pleased with Rashford’s overall impact, despite the England forward not being a regular starter so far this season, and he was a key driver in getting the agreement over the line.
Finances will dictate whether Barcelona can afford United’s clause as the club preparing for another balancing act in 2026.
