Manchester United look ready to let a midfield star join Liverpool. Here's your chance, Richard Hughes.
Liverpool are in the market for a midfielder this summer and that’s something that could take precedence if Curtis Jones leaves the club. Let alone if Alexis Mac Allister also departs, as has been rumoured.
Even Dominik Szoboszlai has hit a road block in contract talks. The Reds are facing an uncertain future with their midfield - and need to fix it.
They’ve been linked with several midfielders, too, though face a fight on all of them. Manchester United, rebuilding their midfield this summer, are essentially considering the same players.
Joao Gomes is one of those, with the Wolves midfielder almost certainly moving somewhere new this summer after relegation. Manu Kone is another one - the France star likely leaves AS Roma and both United and Liverpool want him.

That would be their midfield rebuild done, effectively. Certainly, they’d no longer be able to guarantee a starting role to any new signings - and that’s an advantage to Liverpool.
A hefty one, in fact. Kone is almost certainly not moving anywhere that would jeopardise his chances of starting for France, while Gomes will harbour dreams of regular football with Brazil.
Thus United have essentially chosen the experience of Tielemans and left the others for Liverpool. It’s time for Richard Hughes and company to take advantage, potentially snapping up Kone or Gomes without too much of a fight.
