Summer success

The United trio were a number of stars who took part in this summer’s Euro 2025 competition.

It was the English who would be the most successful as Ella Toone started in all but one of the six matches that the winners played.

She also played a significant role in all of the knockout matches, including starting against Spain in the final.

Grace Clinton also got some action as she made an appearance from the bench in the quarter and semi-final victories.

Maya Le Tissier did not feature in the team during the tournament but at just 23-years-old, she will surely have plenty more time to make her mark on the international stage.

Awards

The club’s official website reports that during the Women’s pre-season trip to Marbella, Spain, the club have rewarded their players’ fantastic efforts in the summer.

The site states, “Manchester United Women’s Grace Clinton, Maya Le Tissier and Ella Toone have been presented with commemorative plates in recognition of their Euro 2025 success.”

The article continues, “after a well-earned summer break, Grace, Maya and Ella have re-joined the United Women squad that is busy preparing for the much-anticipated 2025/26 season.”

During a team meeting on Wednesday, manager Marc Skinner highlighted the success of the three players.

He commented, “of course, we had a fantastic tournament this summer with the Euros and we had many representatives from across all of our nations that are with us in this team.”

Skinner added, “obviously, being English, I am very proud that we have the winners of the tournament and that doesn’t take away from anybody else that’s in the room.”

He continued, “I wanted to just say a little congratulations and well done, because, for Maya and Grace it’s your first one, and for Tooney it’s your second. To win the Euros is an extremely significant life event.”

United Women have beaten Aston Villa and drawn with Manchester City so far in pre-season friendlies and will continue their preparations with a match on Saturday against Real Betis. They will then finish with a mouth-watering home tie versus arch rivals Liverpool on Wednesday back at the Leigh Sports Village.
