Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, but they may have to ward off competition from Atletico Madrid, who have launched a move for him.

United are bracing for a busy summer window as they prepare to play Champions League football and mount a title challenge next season.

While bolstering the midfield is believed to be the priority, other positions could also come into play, including striker. There is uncertainty surrounding the future of Joshua Zirkzee, who struggled for playing time in 2025/26 under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick.

A return to Italy has been mooted for Zirkzee, with the likes of AC Milan, Atalanta, Roma and Juventus all believed to be eyeing his signature. The Dutchman has yet to decide where he wants to play his football, whether that is at Old Trafford or elsewhere.

Osimhen, a player United have been linked with for several windows, has been mentioned to be of interest to the club yet again. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that his name features on a list of striker targets for the Red Devils.

The Nigerian superstar enjoyed a superb campaign with Galatasaray, contributing 15 goals and five assists in 22 Super Lig appearances. Across all competitions, he managed 22 goals and eight assists.

Now, AS have given an update on Osimhen’s situation ahead of the commencement of the summer window.

Osimhen transfer update

According to the Spanish news outlet, with Antoine Griezmann gone and Julián Álvarez being courted by Barcelona and PSG, Atlético Madrid are planning to strengthen their attack.

It’s said that an approach has been made for Osimhen, but Atletico are also aware that United are lurking.

The report says, “Atlético Madrid’s sporting management is active. The club has inquired about Victor Osimhen, the 27-year-old Nigerian striker from Galatasaray.”

“He’s an important player, a striker who could leave the Turkish club this season. Many top European clubs are monitoring him, and sources in the Premier League claim he’s a priority target for Manchester United.”

“Atlético is keeping a close eye on the situation in case Julián Álvarez ultimately leaves the Metropolitano.”

AS explain that securing a deal for Osimhen won’t be easy, but his credentials make him well worth the effort.
