Michael Carrick says Patrick Dorgu remains sidelined for this weekend’s game against Chelsea while Kobbie Mainoo is a doubt.
The United boss also discussed his defensive headache this weekend, with Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez suspended and Mathjis de Ligt still working his way back from injury.
Maguire was suspended following a straight red against Bournemouth before the international break, when he brought down Evanilson in the box, but received an additional match ban for comments made to the fourth official as he left the pitch.
Carrick said he was “massively disappointed” by the decision, adding: “We’ve had a few reasons to be disappointed over those sort of situations over the last few weeks, but we have got to move on.
“The decisions have been made – something that we’re really disappointed with in many ways – but we’ve got to move on now and that’s what we’ll do.”
Martinez was sent off against Leeds on Monday after he pulled Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair, in an act judged to be “violent conduct”. After the match, Carrick called the decision “one of the worst” he has seen and reiterated his feelings on Friday: “We are disappointed. We didn’t agree with it. It was pretty obvious how I felt about it after the game and I still feel that way.

“It is what it is, we’ve been hit with some decisions but we have to accept it and move on.”
In the absence of his two most experienced central defenders, Carrick will likely have no choice but to start Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro, just 19 and 20 years-old respectively. Adding to his woes is the continuing recovery of Patrick Dorgu, who has been out of action since January with a hamstring injury.
“Patrick [Dorgu] is going well, rehabbing well, he’s on track but is not with us in terms of training yet,” Carrick conceded. “He’s back on the pitch which is positive and he’s doing really well.”
As for Kobbie Mainoo, who missed the match against Leeds earlier in the week, Carrick said that “there’s a decision to be made” as the England international has managed “little bits” to do before being ready.
