Manchester United are considering an approach to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven this summer.

Though a centre-back signing is not the leading priority heading into the summer, an imposing left-footed central defender is desired if funds allow.

United are understood to be monitoring Van de Ven in case an opportunity opens up for a deal. Spurs sit 18th in thePremier League table and remain at threat of relegation, a scenario which would lead to a mass exodus in North London. Robert De Zerbi's side are two points from safety ahead of this weekend's crunch clash with Wolves.

Van de Ven has endured a difficult season but the 25-year-old is well thought of by rival recruiters.The Athletic have confirmed there is interest from Manchester United, while Liverpool are long-term admirers and could approach in the summer.

Despite Ibrahima Konate closing in on a new contract at Anfield, Van de Ven could be targeted as a long-term heir to Netherlands teammate Virgil van Dijk, who turns 35 in July.

Spurs remain in a strong negotiating position, even if relegated from thePremier League. There is significant interest in the defender from England and Europe, while Van de Ven is contracted to the club until 2029. He has made 40 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring seven goals.
