Manchester United are confident that West Ham will reduce their asking price for Mateus Fernandes with the club in need of sales before the end of the financial year.

Relegation from thePremier League has further contributed to West Ham's need to balance the books. The East Londoners posted a loss of £104million last year, a report that confirmed sales were necessary, even without relegation.

West Ham's relegation means the club are likely to need raise around £150m from sales, with the financial year deadline fast approaching on June 30th. The Hammers are at risk of breaching Premier League or Football League financial regulations without sales.

West Ham's position has left Manchester United relaxed on Fernandes, having identified the 21-year-old as a top target this summer. Despiterival interest from Tottenham Hotspur, the Red Devils remain confident of agreeing a deal, with Fernandes keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also tracked Fernandes, who made his debut for Portugal in March.

However, United have laid the groundwork for a deal and believe Fernandes can be signed for less than his current £85m asking price.

West Ham signed Fernandes from Southampton for a fee of around £38m last summer, and the Saints retain a 15% sell-on clause. As a result, West Ham are hoping a bidding war can ensue.

Fernandes is one of several big names expected to leave the London Stadium. Crysencio Summerville, who has scored twice at the World Cup for the Netherlands, is another attracting interest from top teams withManchester United also among his suitors. Like Fernandes, Spurs and PSG are also monitoring Summerville's situation.

Jarrod Bowen, Konstantinos Mavropanos and January signing Taty Castellanos also have Premier League interest.
