Even though the Tractor Boys have endured a tough campaign, which ultimately resulted in relegation back to the Championship, Delap has enhanced his reputation with his performances in the top-flight.

The 22-year-old has found the net 12 times in 35 games for Ipswich, and he has also impressed with his all-round game as a number nine.

That form, combined with a release clause of £30m, has made Delap arguably the most in-demand player in the country going into the summer window.

A host of clubs have been linked with the England U21 international, including Man Utd, Chelsea and Newcastle. And, according to TalkSPORT, Delap is ‘leaning’ towards joining the Red Devils over the rival interest.

They state that Man Utd and Chelsea were the two clubs pushing hardest for Delap, and he is now open to a switch to Old Trafford.

Unsurprisingly, it’s reported that United will only increase their chances of landing the former Man City youngster if they manage to see off Spurs in the Europa League final later this month.

If Ruben Amorim’s side do beat the Londoners in Bilbao, it will guarantee them a place in the Champions League next season, despite their struggles domestically.

Even with their struggles in the Premier League, the appeal of Man Utd is obvious to players due to the size of the club, and they will be more attractive if they are in the Champions League.

So, you can understand why Delap may want to join Amorim’s side, and you could argue it’s the right club for him at this stage of his career, as he should get game time, as most would agree he is an upgrade on what they have right now.

From Ipswich’s perspective, as soon as it became clear Delap had a release clause, there was no chance of keeping him at Portman Road, and it’s just a case of where he will end up.

In an ideal world for the Suffolk outfit, this will be resolved relatively quickly, so it brings money to the club, which allows Kieran McKenna and the recruitment to get working on a replacement.
