Manchester United are the latest club to be credited with an interest in Southampton's Aaron Ramsdale

With Southampton's relegation from the Premier League having now been officially confirmed, Aaron Ramsdale is seemingly the subject of widespread transfer interest ahead of the club's Championship return.

The Saints are poised to undertake a fire-sale this summer as they look to rebuild the squad under a new manager following Ivan Juric's departure and trim the wage bill.

Southampton remain on course to potentially set a new record for the lowest points total accumulated in Premier League history. The Championship-bound side have collected one less point than Derby County's 11-point total during the 2007/08 top-flight campaign, having won just twice all season, and recorded the division's swiftest-ever relegation when their fate was mathematically sealed by a 3-1 defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur at the start of this month.

However, a number of players on the south coast are still attracting interest ahead of the summer window. Kyle Walker-Peters, who is out of contract this summer, has reportedly earned admiration from the likes of former club Spurs and others, while exciting young winger Tyler Dibling is also linked with the North London outfit along with a clutch of leading domestic and continental top-flight sides.

Ramsdale is another Southampton player who appears to have caught the eye, though, and Manchester United have now emerged as the latest club linked with his signature.

According to a fresh report from The Sun, Ruben Amorim's side have joined the race for Ramsdale. It's said that United have been tracking Ramsdale closely in recent times, and are convinced that the Saints shot-stopper would represent a strong signing amid the club's current goalkeeping crisis.

Ramsdale reportedly has a £25 million release clause, which appears to have alerted a host of suitors.

At United, first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana has come under fire for his recent displays and was taken out of the side in place of Altay Bayindir. However, the Turkish international struggled between the sticks in the Red Devils' 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, and Amirom is now seemingly intent on bolstering his goalkeeping options.

As per The Sun's report, Ramsdale is set to leave Southampton this summer and has no shortage of suitors, with West Ham also said to be interested along with clubs abroad - though his preference is reportedly to stay in England. There is going to be plenty of competition coming United's way in the coming weeks and months as they look to bring Ramsdale to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has been separately linked with a move to Leeds United, though that will surely depend on whether Daniel Farke's side clinch promotion from the Championship.

It was hoped that the arrival of Ramsdale, who brought serious pedigree after spending two of the previous seasons as Mikel Arteta's number-one with Arsenal, would help Southampton to stay in the Premier League under then-head coach Russell Martin.

Southampton pushed the boat out for the England international, agreeing an initial £18 million deal which could eventually rise to £25 million and tying him down to a four-year contract.

Despite Southampton's miserable performances, though, Ramsdale has been one of the few players to emerge from the season with credit. Ramsdale has been able to keep the Saints in games and is the key reason why their goal difference, which already sits at a lowly -54, is not considerably worse.

Notably, the former Bournemouth and Arsenal 'keeper saved two penalties against Aston Villa over the weekend - but Southampton still lost 3-0. He has not been helped one bit by an extremely leaky defence infront of him, but has still shown enough evidence to convince Premier League clubs that he deserves to stay in the top-flight.
