Manchester United are reportedly pondering a move for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who is still recovering from an injury.
The 33-year-old is widely considered one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation. He rose through the ranks of Borussia Monchengladbach and became a stalwart for the Bundesliga side, before being sold to Barcelona in the summer of 2014. He has been at the Catalan club ever since.
The German international went on to win six LaLiga titles and as many Copa del Rey trophies, in addition to a Champions League title. But despite being the club captain, his relationship with the Blaugrana took a few hits in recent times.
Ter Stegen has become surplus to requirements at the club, especially following the arrival of Joan Garcia last summer. Wojciech Szczesny, who returned from a brief retirement to replace the German after suffering a serious injury last season, is also ahead of him in the pecking order.
Therefore, Ter Stegen was expected to leave Barcelona last summer, with Man Utd mentioned as one of his potential suitors.

While the experienced shot-stopper ended up staying with the Spanish giants, Catalan newspaper and website Sport now tips him to leave in the middle of the campaign.
As the source explains, the Monchengladbach native should recover from his back injury by the end of November, but he might struggle to earn playing time in the presence of Garcia and Szczesny.
Hence, the shot-stopper could consider a move in order to salvage his chances of earning a spot in Germany’s World Cup squad.
The Spanish report identifies Man United as a potential destination for the custodian, as are Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle.
Nevertheless, it should be noted that the Red Devils were amazed by Senne Lammens, who produced an ‘ideal’ performance on his club debut, helping the team beat Sunderland on Saturday.
Unlike the other two aforementioned Premier League clubs, United aren’t taking part in any European competition this season, and have already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup, which limits their schedule to league action and FA Cup ties.
Hence, Ruben Amorim might struggle to accommodate both a hungry up-and-comer like Lammens and a top-notch veteran like Ter Stegen, and keep them the two of them happy.
