Manchester United have reportedly translated their interest in Morten Hjulmand into action by tabling a concrete offer.
The 26-year-old was named Sporting CP captain after cementing himself as a pillar at the club. The Dane had joined the Lisbon-based giants in the summer of 2023, making the move from Serie A club Lecce under the tutelage of Ruben Amorim.
Therefore, the 40-year-old boss has been keen to reunite with Hjulmand at Carrington, considering him the right profile to bolster the midfield ranks.
As reported on Monday, Man Utd have decided to send Toby Collyer out on loan, which should make room for a new arrival in the middle of the park. Aside from the young Englishman, Amorim’s midfield department includes club captain Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte.
According to Calciomercato, United have submitted an offer worth €40 million for Hjulmand who would be delighted to reconnect with Amorim.

However, this bid is unlikely to be accepted, as it remains far off from Sporting’s asking price. The Portuguese giants began the summer by asking for the full value of the player’s release clause, that is €80 million.
Needless to say, this figure is unrealistic, so the club has gradually lowered the bar, but it is now believed that they’re seeking €50 million for the Dane.
Moreover, Man Utd must be willing to battle other suitors for Hjulmand’s favour, particularly Juventus who are said to be keen on landing the midfielder who has been described as ‘fiery’ by his international teammate, Thomas Delaney.
Hence, we can expect the battle for Hjulmand’s services to heat up in the coming days and weeks. The Red Devils might be caught up in their attempts to sign a new centre-forward, but they must also keep an eye on this track so they aren’t left behind in the race.
