Middlesbrough have a sell-on clause in their deal with Aston Villa for Morgan Rogers from 2024
Middlesbrough cashed in on Morgan Rogers when Aston Villa tried to sign the player in the 2024 January transfer window.
The two clubs reached an agreement worth a reported £15 million, with the playmaker departing just a few months after moving to the Riverside from Manchester City.
It’s been claimed that the Teesside outfit also agreed a big sell-on clause as part of the deal with the Premier League side.
Rogers has become a key figure in Unai Emery’s first team squad, with the team competing for qualification to the Champions League.
The 23-year-old has contributed eight goals and five assists from 31 appearances in the top flight, as well as one goal and two assists from 10 games in the Europa League.
However, his impressive performances this year have also led to speculation over his future at Villa Park, which could have a big impact for Middlesbrough this summer.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are ready to compete with Chelsea for the signing of Rogers.
It is believed that both clubs have not been put off by the lofty asking price set by Aston Villa going into the summer market.
The Premier League rivals are set to step up their interest in the player, particularly if he performs well as part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad at the World Cup later this year in North America.
It has been reported that the Midlands outfit have set an asking price of at least £100 million on the player, which is the figure the club earned in their sale of Jack Grealish to Manchester City in 2021.
The exact size of Middlesbrough’s sell-on clause remains unclear, but if it is at least 10 per cent then the Championship side could be in line for an eight-figure sum, provided the £100 million asking price is met.
Boro are chasing a place in the Premier League themselves this season, with the team currently occupying a place inside the top two.
The Teesside outfit have not been in the top flight since their 2017 relegation, with their last top six finish in the second tier coming three years ago under Michael Carrick.
But Kim Hellberg’s side are now second in the standings with just seven games remaining.
Next up for Middlesbrough is a home clash against fourth place Millwall on 3 April in a 12.30pm kick-off, with just two points separating the teams.
Rogers has gone from strength to strength since leaving Middlesbrough two years ago, and he is now one of the most highly-rated players in the Premier League.
It’s very possible he’ll have a big role to play in Tuchel’s team this summer, with England one of the front-runners to win the competition.
A sale of £100 million would lead to a significant financial boost for Boro, potentially close, or even equal, to the figure earned from his initial sale.
It was a shrewd move by the club to insert a sell-on clause in his sale, and they will now be paying close attention to this looming saga over the coming months.
