Paul Merson believes Manchester United will hardly miss the presence of Benjamin Sesko in Monday’s contest against Everton.

The Slovenian hurt himself while attempting a shot against Tottenham Hotspur just before the international break.

Sesko was forced to leave the pitch afterwards, leaving his teammates with a man down for the final stretch of the match, which ended in a 2-2 draw after some late drama.

Paul Merson explains why Man United won’t miss Benjamin Sesko

While the club feared that the 23-year-old could be out of action for a long time, the outcome was rather merciful. Sesko will only miss a few weeks of action, as reported by reputable sources in recent days, and confirmed by Ruben Amorim himself in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

The manager said he expects the striker to resume action by mid-December, by the time Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbuemo and Noussair Mazraoui are expected to leave for the African Cup of Nations.

For his part, Merson argues that Man Utd should be in no rush to welcome Sesko back to the fold, as they’ve been more dangerous in his absence.

The former Arsenal midfielder feels that the Red Devils can cause havoc upfront when Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo alternate in the striker role, giving no reference points to the opposition.

“Benjamin Sesko being ruled out does not help Everton because they would rather play against him,” said Merson in his pre-match predictions for Sportskeeda.

“If Sesko played, Everton know what they are up against and how to mark him. When it’s Matheus Cunha playing that false-nine role, it’s entirely different. One second you’re looking at Cunha and the next thing you know it’s Bryan Mbeumo also working in tandem with him.

“With Sesko, United can only play one way and that would have been easier to deal with.”

Merson also believes that United are gradually beginning to find their rhythm, even though they still have a long way to go. He thus predicts a 2-0 victory for the Reds on Monday.

Are Man Utd truly better without Sesko?

While the pundit might be presenting a valid point, every team needs a classic No.9 at some instance of the match, and this season, Sesko is the only one natural centre-forward they have. After all, Amorim sees Joshua Zirkzee as more suitable for a deeper role.

Therefore, Cunha and Mbeumo are certainly capable of causing havoc in the final third, but if David Moyes decides to park the bus, the duo could struggle to play between Everton’s tight lines, leaving Amorim to rue Sesko’s absence.
