Manchester United’s second goal against Nottingham Forest survived a lengthy VAR handball check, with referee Michael Salisbury sticking with his on-field call. Gary Neville later described the outcome as a shocker.

United led when Luke Shaw struck after five minutes. Forest levelled through Morato, then two minutes later Matheus Cunha restored the lead, though the ball appeared to hit Bryan Mbeumo’s arm in the build-up.

Salisbury was sent to the pitch-side monitor after an extended review. He upheld the original decision, judging the handball accidental, so the goal stood.

Neville said the process was ridiculous and that the officials had overthought the call after a long delay. He could not believe what he had seen.

Bryan Mbeumo later made it 3-1 after wasting two big chances earlier in the match. Elliot Anderson then supplied his second assist for Morgan Gibbs-White to set up a tense finale.
