Arsenal make the trip to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon to face historic rivals Manchester United in the Premier League.

The Gunners have all but surrendered in their Premier League title fight after back-to-back slip-ups against West Ham United and Nottingham Forest, but they will still be keen to push table-toppers Liverpool all the way.

Their 7-1 thrashing of PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday will certainly have raised morale, with Mikel Arteta's side shaking off their attacking woes during a gruelling evening for the Dutch outfit. Their sizeable victory means they can afford to rest players for the second leg rather than in the Premier League.

United can only dream of Arsenal's success this season as Ruben Amorim's men continue to flounder domestically. Their FA Cup exit last weekend means that they are solely reliant on the Europa League for silverware.

The injury-stricken Red Devils managed to secure an acceptable 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in their Europa League last 16 first leg on Thursday, but will have one eye on the upcoming return fixture. That could play into Arsenal's hands this weekend, although Amorim can't afford to rotate his threadbare side against the Gunners.

Amorim was coy on potential returns for his injured stars during his pre-match press conference, claiming he wasn't sure whether the likes of Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte would feature after both missed the draw in San Sebastian.

Chido Obi will return to the mix against the side he left over the summer. The 17-year-old missed Thursday's clash as he's not registered in United's Europa League squad. Ayden Heaven is another Arsenal youngster who has recently made the move to Old Trafford and he will likely be in the squad on Sunday, too.

However, United will be without Patrick Dorgu as he serves the second match of his three-game suspension. He joins injured absentees Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount and Altay Bayindir on the sidelines.

Amorim did provide a surprise update on Amad's fitness, though. The Portuguese boss admitted that the young forward could make his comeback before the end of the current campaign.

Arsenal will not welcome any of their injured stars back into the fold on Sunday, with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus missing for the rest of the season. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are still sidelined through injury, too.

The Gunners didn't need their missing forwards during the midweek demolition of PSV and Arteta will field the same attacking unit that starred in Eindhoven. With Wednesday's second leg more or less a dead rubber, he can afford to name his strongest XI at Old Trafford.

Myles Lewis-Skelly could be dropped from the starting lineup for the trip to United, though. The youngster was substituted in the first half midweek after fortuitously escaping a second yellow card, with Arteta potentially opting for Riccardo Calafiori - who scored and assisted on Tuesday - at left-back.

Sunday's battle between these old foes doesn't whet the appetite as much as it has in previous seasons, with neither side at their best. The Red Devils are in poor form and without some key performers, while the Gunners' attacking injuries will limit their effectiveness in the final third - unless Amorim's side decide to defend as dismally as PSV, of course.

It could be a tense affair with a decent amount of bite, but it's unlikely to be a thriller on the pitch, much less a high-scoring affair. Arsenal will be obvious favourites and their stern backline could be the decisive factor at Old Trafford if they're to snatch all three points.
