Barcelona may have had a busy January so far, trying to churn out the youth academy. But the club are bracing themselves for a busier summer ahead.
The Catalans are expected to shore up multiple positions, with the focus primarily on signing a new defender and a striker.
However, the coming summer could present Barcelona with the opportunity to sign one of their long-time midfield targets in Bernardo Silva.
According to Diario SPORT, Bernardo Silva has informed Barcelona that he is keen on joining the club at the end of the season.
The Manchester City star’s contract at Etihad expires in the summer, making him a potential free agent at the end of the season.
Although Bernardo has offers from Saudi Arabia, he has told his agent Jorge Mendes he wants to continue at the highest level of football, and Barcelona, to that end, have emerged as an attractive destination.

Mendes shares an excellent relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, and the club itself are aware of his desire to come to Camp Nou.
However, Barcelona are not entirely sure if it wants to sign Bernardo Silva next summer. That is largely due to the fact that signing a new midfielder is not among the team’s priorities at the moment.
The club are already quite stacked in the attacking midfield role, with Fermin Lopez, who has been handed a renewal offer and Dani Olmo competing for the position.
Not to mention, Gavi could return to full fitness soon, making it all the more difficult for Bernardo to find himself a place in the team.
However, Silva has been one of Barcelona’s long-time targets and it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the coming months.
