Manchester City and Arsenal are both vying for a historic quadruple of trophies in the business end of the season.
Arsenal topped the UEFA Champions League group-stage with eight wins in eight to establish themselves as favourites to win Europe’s elite club competition, with the Gunners also in the driver’s seat to win a first Premier League title in 22 years.
The Gunners are leading Manchester City by four points but Mikel Arteta and co will be left aggrieved that the gap between first and second is not greater after the poor start to 2026 recorded by Pep Guardiola and co.
City have already suffered draws against Sunderland, Brighton, Chelsea and Tottenham in this calendar year, though the last few weeks has seen the tide turn at the Etihad Stadium, sparked by a thrilling late comeback triumph over Liverpool at Anfield.
City have momentum back on their side and having avoided defeat in their last seven games in all competitions, the Blues have gradually clawed their way back into the title race as Arsenal themselves remain far from convincing in the Premier League.
Both sides progressed to the FA Cup fifth round at the weekend, with City running out 2-0 winners over Salford City at the Etihad Stadium and Arsenal securing a 4-0 victory over Wigan Athletic at the Emirates Stadium.
The Premier League’s title contenders will also meet in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on March 22 in a game that could have major ramifications in determining the destination of the league crown come the end of the season.
City will also welcome Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium on April 18, which could prove to be a genuine title decider on matchday 33 of the Premier League campaign should the duo be in touching distance of each other heading into the fixture.
Bill Edgar of Times Sport has highlighted a mind-boggling stat that is a hugely positive reflection on the performance of English clubs on various fronts.
It is for the first time in English football history that two clubs – Manchester City and Arsenal – will be in the running to win an unprecedented quadruple in March, as positive an indictment of how well the pair have performed this term.
City are still at a nascent stage of their transition under director of football Hugo Viana and have been far from their best in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League so far, having avoided the play-off stage in the latter by the skin of their teeth.
Arsenal have made their name as the best team in Europe by conquering the UEFA Champions League group-stage this season, with the Gunners also in pole position, despite their recent slump, to record a historic finish to the campaign.
