In a recent report, journalist Fraser Fletcher claimed that Manchester City are keeping a keen eye on Ajax midfielder Jorthy Mokio. It has been stated that the Mancunian giants would have to rival Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona and Liverpool in the race to sign the Belgian talent next year.

Mokio’s Excellent Rise In Dutch Football

Mokio came through the youth ranks of Gent before joining Ajax on a free transfer last summer. The 17-year-old has already made 21 senior appearances for the Dutch outfit so far, scoring a couple of goals in all competitions.

The talented teenager is among the best young midfielders in Belgian football. Therefore, Man City will do well to bring him on board next year.

Mokio is under contract at the Amsterdam-based club until the summer of 2027, which could give the Mancunian giants a chance to sign him on the cheap at the end of this season.

Manchester City Are Keeping A Keen Eye On Mokio: Is He A Star In The Making?

Mokio loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and is a good passer of the ball as well.

The Belgian wonderkid can also chip in by scoring the odd goal for his team. Mokio is primarily a holding midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-back if needed. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to adjust to life in the Premier League if Man City manage to acquire his services next year.

Mokio would add a lot of quality to Pep Guardiola’s midfield department in the long run. He has the potential to serve as an ideal long-term successor to Rodri at the Mancunian club.

At 17, Mokio is undoubtedly a star in the making. Thus, Man City would be wise to go all out to bring him to the Etihad Stadium this January or at the end of this season. However, Guardiola needs to give him some time to settle into life in England.
