  1. Man City’s highly-regarded academy graduate Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is on the verge of confirming a permanent switch to German football.
  2. The 20-year-old central defender is believed to be finalising terms, with a formal announcement expected soon.
  3. The permanent transfer creates further funds for Sporting Director Hugo Viana as he structures Manchester City’s post-Pep Guardiola squad.

Highly-rated and versatile Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is expected to finalise a permanent move to German football this week, according to reports.

Incoming Etihad Stadium manager Enzo Maresca is believed to be working closely with Hugo Viana at the City Football Academy (CFA) to run an audit of all assets present within Manchester City’s first-team squad.

While senior figures focus heavily on resolving their own futures – including the ongoing noise around Brazilian winger Savinho and contract extensions for key first-team names – the academy sector is quietly generating revenue themselves.

Simpson-Pusey’s imminent exit marks yet another chapter in City’s successful strategy of utilising loan spells to develop starlets, and lead them to big-money transfers and a strong career, or bring them to the attention of the Premier League giants themselves.

Simpson-Pusey set for new permanent home

Now, according to the information of Kicker, Bundesliga side FC Köln are on the verge of finalising a permanent move for 20-year-old Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

The deal – worth €5 million, as added by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg – comes off the back of the central defender’s short-term loan deal finalised in January – and it is now expected that the temporary arrangement will be made permanent before the end of the week.

Why Koln are investing in Simpson-Pusey

Having initially moved to the RheinEnergieStadion on a short-term loan in January, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey quickly established himself as a highly dependable asset, winning over coaching staff with his composure on the ball and versatility.

His impressive performances helped secure a stable top-tier finish for the Billy Goats, convincing the Bundesliga side’s sporting department to activate permanent buyout talks before alternative European suitors could make their own move.

For Manchester City, banking an undisclosed permanent fee for a homegrown academy product represents another fine example of their strategy when it comes to player development.

The incoming funds will give the club further breathing room under financial regulations, further allowing for activity in the market when it come to senior first-team recruitment, and the ongoing pursuit of top-level targets such as Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.
