Talk of transfer interest from Manchester City in Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise has received a response from one reporter close to the club.
City’s name has become a regular feature in conversations surrounding elite-level attacking players, particularly with the club expected to explore reinforcements on the wings in 2026 as part of an ongoing rebuild at the tail-end of Pep Guardiola’s tenure.
Following a summer that saw Rayan Cherki arrive from Lyon and Claudio Echeverri head out on loan to Bayer Leverkusen, Pep Guardiola’s attacking options remain under careful review ahead of the next two transfer windows.
That reassessment is occurring amid significant transition within the squad as all of Ederson, İlkay Gündoğan, and Manuel Akanji all departed for Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Inter Milan respectively, while Jack Grealish sealed a season-long loan to Everton.
Those exits have opened the door for younger figures such as Oscar Bobb – who has returned from long-term injury – and teenage wonderkid Divine Mukasa to stake stronger claims for first-team inclusion during the ongoing 2025/26 campaign.
Michael Olise, who swapped Crystal Palace for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024, has been linked in some reports as a potential future target for Manchester City. The Frenchman’s versatility across attacking roles has made him a natural name to mention amid growing speculation around Bernardo Silva’s long-term future.
And this week, MailSport’s Jack Gaughan has been quizzed by Manchester City fans on whether Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise is a ‘genuine target’ for the Etihad Stadium club.
“Not for January and it’s still a little early to predict how the summer might look,” Gaughan explained. “There will be a free slot given Bernardo Silva’s contract is coming to an end and City have flirted with the idea of Olise before.”
The Manchester City reporter continued, “What happens in that area of the pitch will be dependent on how Oscar Bobb does: if he truly flourishes as is hoped, then City are unlikely to add.”
That stance aligns with what has been emerging from within City circles throughout recent months as officials have long made it clear that recruitment in attacking areas will depend heavily on player performance and development this season.
The club were willing to invest significantly in a right-winger last summer – as reports from Germany linked them with a €100 million willingness to move for a Bayern attacker – but current plans appear more measured.
For now, the likelihood of a move for Olise in 2026 could rest on multiple factors such as Bernardo Silva’s contract resolution, Oscar Bobb’s form, and Bayern Munich’s own plans for the Frenchman alongside rival interest in the player.
Should Manchester City ultimately revisit interest, it would reflect a familiar pattern under Pep Guardiola – identifying players capable of playing both wide and centrally to preserve tactical flexibility.
With Hugo Viana now overseeing squad planning in his first full season as sporting director, Manchester City are expected to monitor Olise’s Bundesliga progress closely rather than rush into any decision.
