There always appeared to be the potential this week that Manchester City could make a host of moves in the transfer market. Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that City are on the verge of completing a deal for Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov. Now Romano has reported that the world champions are on the verge of completing a deal for Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis. It is now looking like Manchester City are set to land another blow in the transfer market.
Fabrizio Romano has reported on X that Manchester City and Palmeiras have reached an agreement over the transfer of Vitor Reis. Furthermore, Romano reports that a verbal agreement has been reached between the two clubs of a deal of just under €40 million. Lastly, Romano adds that Vitor Reis is set for a medical and will sign his contract with City once all the formalities of the deal are complete.
It is also included in Fabrizio Romano’s report that Manchester City want Vitor Reis to join Pep Guardiola’s squad immediately. Given the injuries that have plagued City’s defence that is an understandable move. Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias have all suffered from injury issues this season. That has crippled City’s defence at times this season. Although Vitor Reis is only 18, based on his performances for Palmeiras, he could step in and play a role for Manchester City. His talent is obvious and Reis does appear to have maturity beyond his years. That skillset could see him become a contributor for the second half of the season for Pep Guardiola’s side. That of course is dependant on if he arrives at the Etihad this month.
Based on Fabrizio Romano’s new report it seems that City have landed another blow in the transfer market. Vitor Reis appears set to sign for Manchester City and that is welcome news. City’s rebuild has kicked off and another quality young player appears set to arrive at the Etihad. The hope is that Vitor Reis can become a mainstay of the City defence for years to come.
