Lastly, Plettenberg reports that Manchester City have begun talks with FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa to come in and be Ederson’s replacement.

Santi Aouna has also reported for footballmercato.net that Diogo Costa has agreed to join Manchester City. Furthermore, Aouna reports that Costa is keen to join Pep Guardiola’s side. Lastly, Aouna adds that Costa’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is working on sealing the move to Manchester City for his client. Talks over the potential move are ongoing as per Aouna’s new report.

Manchester City are moving to stay ahead of the unfolding Ederson situation.

Based on all of the available information Manchester City aren’t wasting any time in having a new goalkeeper lined up if, as expected, Ederson leaves the club in the summer. Replacing him would be no easy task based on what he adds to Pep Guardiola’s side. Ederson’s ability on the ball has been crucial to Manchester City’s era of dominance. While Diogo Costa isn’t as proficient with his feet as Ederson he is no slouch in this department. The Portuguese international is also a quality shot-stopper which would see him be a good addition to the City squad.

If you were to draw up a list of goalkeepers to replace Ederson, Diogo Costa would be near the top of the list. He is a proven performer at the highest level both with club and country.
