Gianluigi Donnarumma could yet leave PSG this summer but not for Manchester City, according to fresh reports emerging from France.

The Italian goalkeeper has been consistently linked with a move away from Paris following PSG’s decision to review their long-term options in goal, leading them towards the recruitment of Lille’s Lucas Chevalier.

Manchester City are club to have explored the possibility of signing Donnarumma, particularly as uncertainty continues to surround the future of Ederson, but any deal is proving far from straightforward.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain in the market for a reliable successor should Ederson move on, however they are also mindful of balancing finances after already investing heavily in the summer transfer window, and perhaps the long-term faith put into James Trafford.

City’s interest comes at a time when Donnarumma’s contractual situation is becoming increasingly relevant. With his deal running down, potential suitors are monitoring the situation closely, seeing it as an opportunity to secure one of Europe’s best goalkeepers at a reduced cost.

But while the Etihad Stadium hierarchy would ideally prefer a low-fee solution, the stance taken by Paris Saint-Germain is complicating matters and could allow another club to swoop in late in the window.

For City, the uncertainty is compounded by the fact that negotiations to sell Ederson remain unresolved. While Galatasaray have expressed interest, no final agreement has been reached, and City cannot commit to a big-money goalkeeper signing without clarity on their current number one’s future.

According to the information of Les Parisiens, as translated and relayed by Get French Football News, they appear to be adamant that PSG’s valuation on Gianluigi Donnarumma will not be met by Manchester City in the final week of the summer transfer window.

From the side of those at the Etihad, it is claimed that City officials want to take advantage of Donnarumma’s contractual situation to sign him on a low-cost agreement, and would even be ready to wait until January to sign the Italian in the final six months of his contract.

As for those at PSG, it is further reported that the French giants have had informal talks with transfer brokers, suggesting that another club could take advantage of Manchester City’s stance – and their ongoing struggle to sell Ederson to Galatasaray – and make a late move of their own for Donnarumma.

Should a rival enter the race, it could leave City in a vulnerable position. Missing out on Donnarumma this summer would force Guardiola and sporting director Hugo Viana to either pivot towards alternative goalkeeper targets, or put full faith into James Trafford.

There is also the scenario where City take the risk of waiting until January, but such a move would mean relying on Ederson for another half-season despite his unsettled situation. In that period, another elite European side could secure Donnarumma on a permanent deal.

The final week of the window looks decisive, and Manchester City supporters will be watching closely to see whether the club’s patience pays off or whether hesitation allows a rival to deliver a costly blow in the transfer market.
