With Elliot Anderson now a Manchester City player, looking at the players that Anderson can potentially link up with in Enzo Maresca’s squad is an exciting proposition. Anderson does look to complement nicely what the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders have in their squad. Phil Foden shared his excitement about playing alongside Anderson yesterday. The link-up play between the pair could form a lethal combination for City for next season and beyond.
Phil Foden addressed the media yesterday as Manchester City continued their preparations for today’s friendly against the K-League All-Stars. Foden was asked about the prospect of playing alongside Elliot Anderson. City signed Anderson from Nottingham Forest early in the summer transfer window. Phil Foden revealed that he is looking forward to playing with Anderson and that their games do seem to complement each other. Foden explained: “I am really excited to have him at the club. Whenever I have watched him or played with him, he’s a player that likes to find the No.10 and wrap balls through the lines. That suits me really well. I’m excited to play with him and can’t wait really.”
Last season when Phil Foden showed his best he did play a midfield role. Foden played ahead of Nico Gonzalez and Bernardo Silva and he showed that he is ready for an advanced midfield role. Looking towards the 2026-27 season, that may be where Elliot Anderson comes into the equation to consistently unlock Foden’s devastating play in the final third.
Elliot Anderson is a tremendous passer. His ability to break the lines with his passing could help Foden be an even more dangerous attacking threat. Anderson has shown during his time in the Premier League that he is an elite passer and has the ability to carry the game forward. Anderson and Foden could be a devastating midfield duo for Manchester City with a player such as Rodri playing with them. In fact, Anderson’s passing game should suit the strengths of Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, Antoine Semenyo and Jeremy Doku as well as Phil Foden.
Phil Foden is excited by the opportunity of playing alongside Elliot Anderson at Manchester City. The pair have the potential to be a devastating combination for Enzo Maresca’s side. It will be fascinating to see how their partnership develops when they do finally get to play together in sky blue.
