With half the 2025-26 Women’s Super League season already over, SheKicks is compiling a midseason report card for every WSL teams and next up is title hopefuls Manchester City.
There has been no stopping Manchester City in the WSL this season so far.
After years of domination by Chelsea in England, their reign may finally be coming to an end this year at the hands of a strong City side.
The Cityzens actually lost their first game of the season in a dramatic defeat to the reigning champions. Following City’s loss in their league opener, it looked as though Chelsea may continue their dominance atop the WSL.
However, City bounced back from the loss and they won their next ten league games up until Christmas in what was a seriously impressive run.
After putting together a ten-game win streak to end 2025, City capitalised on Chelsea’s mistakes and head into the New Year with a six point advantage at the top of the table.
The title seems to be City’s to lose now at this point in the campaign but they still have a long way to go.
When they return from the winter break, City will face Arsenal and Chelsea in back to back games that could decide the WSL season very early on in 2026.
City sit top of the table in December mainly due to their relentlessness in front of goal.
After just 11 games, City have already scored 32 goals – an average of 2.9 per game in the WSL.
Following such an emphatic start to the season in front of goal, City are now well on track to break Chelsea’s single season goal record.
The Blues set the WSL record in 2023-24 when they netted 71 in a 22-game campaign.
It is Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw once again leading the charge for City. The two-time golden boot winner looks well on track to her third award in a row this year.
The Jamaican striker has 12 goals to her name heading into 2026 which already matches her season tally from last year when she won her second golden boot during an injury riddled campaign.
There isn’t anyone near Shaw in the scoring charts and with a seven goal lead over the competition, she is well on her way to a historic third consecutive golden boot in the WSL.
There was a cloud of doubt hanging over Manchester City at the start of the 2025/26 WSL season.
After finishing fourth in the league last year action was taken with the club parting ways with Gareth Taylor after five years in Manchester.
Denmark international manager Andrée Jeglertz was awarded the role and he took charge immediately following Euro 2025.
City really couldn’t have asked for a better start to life under Jeglertz, who has an imperious record in the WSL already after just five months as head coach.
Despite opening day defeat to Chelsea, Jeglertz has won every game he has managed in the WSL.
The Danish manager has been recognised for his side’s impressive run on more than one occasion. Jeglertz was named WSL manager of the month in both October and November but he isn’t finished just yet.
Although the award is yet to be announced, Jeglertz is also up for the December manager of the month award alongside Arsenal’s Renee Slegers.
No manager has ever won four WSL manager of the month awards in one season so Jeglertz could be on the way to history during his debut campaign in England.

It really is hard to grade Manchester City at anything below an A at the midway point in the season.
The Cityzens have outperformed themselves throughout the campaign so far and are deservedly the league leaders heading into 2026.
Although they have been unstoppable since losing to Chelsea in September, City’s season will mean nothing if they aren’t top after 22 games. There is no doubt that the title is City’s to lose right now though.
Games against Arsenal and Chelsea in the first month of 2026 could decide if the title charge is a three horse race or if City will run away as dominant winners.
After six league titles in a row there is no doubt Chelsea still have some fight left in them. Arsenal and Manchester United may be too far back to chase down City, but the race for a Champions League spot is sure to heat up amongst the top four.
