Manchester City’s women, crowned English champions this season, on Wednesday opened a new high-tech training centre.

The club said in a statement the dedicated base sits inside the City Football Academy and spans more than 1,500 sq m.

City describe it as one of the biggest investments ever made in a women’s first team, costed at £10 million, about €11.5 million.

The complex includes a top-grade gym with specialist strength and conditioning kit, dedicated medical, rehab and physio areas, plus hydrotherapy and recovery zones. At its centre is a circular dressing room designed to build team cohesion.

The facility also allows the squad to train apart from the boys’ academy set-up, underlining the growth of a team that has competed in the WSL since 2014.

Khadija Shaw’s team, with Shaw recently named player of the year by the English media, have won their first league title in 10 years. They remain in contention for a double, with an FA Cup final against Brighton on 31 May.
